Middle States

The Middle States Association of College and School Commissions on Elementary and Secondary Schools announced last month that the Binghamton City School District has earned accreditation through 2030-2031 school year. With this accreditation, Middle States has confirmed that they evaluated the district and that it met their criteria for accreditation in five key areas: foundations, governance & organization, student wellbeing, teaching & learning, and resources.

The Middle States Association is an organization that works to aid schools and districts in fulfilling their mission statements, form strategic plans, develop staff, and promote student achievement. Being accredited through Middle States is a mark that the Binghamton City School District is committed to continuous dedication to helping students achieve more and self-evaluating how to better serve them. Some colleges and higher learning institutions only accept applicants from Middle States accredited schools. Also, students who do not attend accredited schools may not qualify for certain colleges, federal grants, or loans.

In the fall of 2024, representatives from Middle States visited the Binghamton City School District to meet district officials and tour our facilities, along with speaking to faculty/staff, students, and stakeholders throughout each building. The representatives then recommended accreditation, which was approved by the organizations Commissions on Elementary and Secondary Schools in April.

The Binghamton City School District was first accredited through Middle States in 1987. The most recent accreditation, in 2013, was extended through 2024 due to COVID.
