Fractions: check. Decimals: check. Geometry: check. Data: check. Logic – they’ve got that too. A team of Binghamton students had a full grasp on these topics at the 2023 Mathalon at Binghamton University. Six graders from West Middle School placed fourth at the annual event, competing against teams from various Broome County schools.
Not only did the team excel at the various math problem with which they were challenged but executed them in a race against the clock. Teams were given just 15 minutes for reach round. The Mathalon, which was held on December 2nd at BU, is the culmination of weeks of preparation for the six students and their two coaches. The team consisted of Henry Barnes, Zoriya Bell, Carter Brown, Gemma Caesar Levis, Edison Pufky, Chester Ricks, and Skylah Vincent and was coached by Mrs. Mahoney and Ms. Gusefski. Congratulations!
