P-TECH

More than 40 students at East and West Middle Schools took the trip up the hill on February 21 to Broome-Tioga BOCES to possibly get a glimpse into their future!

The students were getting a hands-on sneak peek of what they can expect if they enroll in BOCES’ P-TECH program. The P-TECH program is for students entering ninth grade, and enables students to work and learn in a high-tech environment while preparing them to earn an associates degree in one of three technical areas: computer technology, engineering technology, or health studies.

Students were free to visit any of the stations in the gymnasium at BOCES to explore the pathways before them. They tried out flying drones, using engineering principles to create paper airplanes, and learning about human anatomy.

Many of the stations were overseen by students who are currently in the P-TECH Program. BHS junior Kevin Dwyer is focused on engineering technology in P-TECH, and hopes that students.

“I’m hoping they think of this as an amazing opportunity, and there’s a lot of skills you can learn here… especially problem solving. That’s something that everything uses,” Dwyer noted.
