West Orchestra Students Perform at NYSSMA
On April 15 and 16, students from the orchestra program at West Middle School participated in the annual NYSSMA Solo and Ensemble Festival at Johnson City High School. They all had to prepare a solo, scales, and sight reading for a judge to critique them. Students also had the opportunity to perform their solos at the West Middle School Arts Night and NYSSMA recital on May 9. All students were coached by Laura Hine. Congratulations to all participants on a job well done! 
Students contribute to inflatable exhibit at Roberson Museum
An inflatable exhibit at Roberson Museum inspired local students to make a masterpiece of their own.  West Middle School seventh graders created their own inflatable designs for the "BLOW UP" exhibit at Roberson Museum and Science Center.  Watch the story on WBNG.   
DJ Instructs Brother-to-Brother Club at West Middle School
On Monday, April 18, the Brother-to-Brother club of West Middle hosted DJ Toby, who instructed the students on some of the history and technique of DJing. DJ Toby was even gracious enough to let the kids use his equipment to gain first-hand experience scratching records and fading from one turntable to the other. A good time was had by all! 
West Middle School Chorus Students Participate in NYSSMA
Congratulations to all West Middle School chorus students who participated in NYSSMA this year. The NYSSMA festival was held at Johnson City High School on April 15 and 16. The students began preparing for NYSSMA in January and all worked very hard. Chorus students are under the direction of Jennifer Easley.  
WMS Students Watch 'Phantom of the Opera' in Syracuse
Forty-eight students, parents and teachers from the West Middle School Chorus and West Middle School Orchestra had the wonderful opportunity to see Broadway’s Phantom of the Opera at the Landmark Theatre in Syracuse on Friday, April 8. It was a fantastic show enjoyed by all! 
Students Use 3-D Printers to Learn about STEAM
Students at West Middle School have been using a 3-D printer to learn about STEAM.  Challenge Enrichment Teacher Sarah McLaughlin raised money using Donors Choose, a non-profit organization that works to fulfil the needs of public school classrooms across the United States.    
BCSD Celebrates National Poetry Month with Celebration
April marks National Poetry Month, a celebration of poetry started in 1996 by the Academy of American Poets.Here in town, there's the Eleanor Hendricks Countywide Poetry Recitation for Children. Now in its 26th year, the recitation will be held April 30 in the Helen Foley Theater at Binghamton High School. Read story on Press Connects 
WMS Seventh Graders Have Bright Idea
Having trouble sleeping? There could be a simple reason why and an even simpler solution thanks to a trio of Binghamton 7th-graders.... The team of Joseph Caezza, Kaleb Rifenbury, and Amora Marks of West Middle School is one of 50 finalists in a national contest sponsored in part by the National Sleep Foundation.
