West Middle School Students Take a Leaf Walk at Nature Preserve
On a beautiful Saturday morning, more than 20 students and parents of Mr. Zapach’s West Middle School 7th grade science classes met at the Binghamton University Nature Preserve for two hours of leaf collecting and autumn explorations. This was an optional opportunity for students to collect samples for their leaf project. Also in attendance were BCSD faculty members, Mrs. Bezek and Ms. Raymond, and Binghamton alumnus Thomas Bezek. All were treated to the beautiful colors of changing leaves, a walk across the Nature Preserve bridge, and some tasty samples of wild edibles! And the students went home with enough specimens to complete their project. This project gives students real-life experience with scientific collections and using identification keys.
