Students from Binghamton High School's IB Chinese class and their families learned about Chinese culture and traditions at the Rock Center’s Second Annual Moon Festival Gala.  Nya Gibson, Natalie Sheehan, Elise White, and Sienna Merrill joined their teacher Ms. Chen Berry for the Moon Festival, or Mid-Autumn Festival.

The Moon Festival is a time for gathering and thanksgiving as family and friends reunite in celebration of the harvest. This festival has 3,000 year old roots, as it began during the Zhou Dynasty (1046-256 BCE) as a way for the Chinese people to bestow admiration upon loved ones and honor the bright full moon. The festival featured performances from local Chinese artists, musicians, and dancers.
The Moon Festival Gala commemorated the traditional holiday with an emphasis on community and family. This festival was a wonderful opportunity for our studens to experience Chinese culture firsthand, while also coming together to celebrate loved ones. The festival is sponsored by CNYCCC and local Chinese businessmen, educators, and scientists. The students also enjoyed traditional Chinese food and drink at a reception following the performances.
