The Patriot indoor track and field team started the championship portion of their season with a bang on Saturday, capturing titles in eight events in the Section Four Large School Championships at Cornell. Sincere Williamson and Egypt Page took first and second, respectively, in the 55 meter dash, with Page's personal best time of 6.71 seconds qualifying him for the state meet. Williamson later won the 300 meters, while Page, competing in the long jump for the first time this season, won his first individual sectional title with a leap of 20 feet 3.75 inches. Niko Murray joined Williamson as an individual double winner by sweeping the 55 meter hurdles and the triple jump, the latter with an indoor personal best of 44 feet four inches. Matt Fiato improved on his own school record with a winning throw in the 25 pound weight of 48 feet 6.5 inches, the longest toss in Section IV this season, and Williamson and Page teamed with Antonio Daniels and Jeremiah Hines to remain undefeated against Section Four competition in the 800 meter relay.
On the girls' side, Grace Perna showed again that she is the most versatile jumper in Section Four, winning the triple jump with a personal best performance of 35 feet 1 inch, and adding second place finishes in the long and high jumps. Other scorers for the Lady Patriots were Katerina Salcedo, third in the 600 meters; Emily Pogson, sixth in the 3000 meters; and the team of Dynayjah Gadson, Mahmuda Aziz-Wesley, Kamearah Kendrick and Katerina Salcedo, sixth in the 800 meter relay.
Binghamton returns to Cornell on February 25 for the Section Four State Qualifier.
