BHS Engineering Students Visited Lockheed Martin to Test Bridges
The Principles of Engineering students at Binghamton High School visited Lockheed Martin in Owego to test the truss bridges that they designed and constructed. Students prepared for the truss bridge competition by studying civil engineering and the physics behind trusses and bridge building. Engineers from Lockheed Martin visited the Project Lead the Way classrooms before construction began to offer advice to student groups. Once they completed their bridges, student teams competed against each other by performed static load testing using an Instron in Lockheed Martin’s lab. Brandon Mancini organized the day and tours of their Core Sim Lab, Environmental Lab and MH60 Helicopter Hanger. The winning team supported over 85 pounds! A big thank you to everyone at Lockheed Martin for making this experience possible for our Project Lead the Way students.
