BHS Student Accepted to ACLU Summer Advocacy Institute

Binghamton High School junior, Raven Lucas will be using part of her summer to learn about defending civil rights. Lucas has been accepted into the ACLU Summer Advocacy Institute in Georgetown University. Lucas received a full-scholarship to the program and will be learning directly from lawyers, lobbyists, community activists, and other experts working to defend civil rights and liberties critical to a free and open society. The program will bring together a group of diverse students from across the United States for the intense eight-day program.

Lucas believes this will be an incredible opportunity for her since she is interested in pursuing a career in politics in the future.

“I’m very interested in politics and what’s going on currently in the news and what the ACLU stands for lines up with my values and so I thought it would be a great opportunity,” she said. “Honestly I was so excited and happy that I am able to have this opportunity.”
