Students raise money for YWCA MacArthur Students Provide Help for the Homeless
When fourth grade students Zaysia Pilgrim and Iyanna Jones were brainstorming ways to help the community, they thought of those who were homeless. The girls told a social worker at the school about their idea and then brought their plan to the 5th grade student council. Everyone was on board. The students coordinated a school-wide collection of basic need items as well as a collection of money. Mrs. Silsbee class raised the most money and won a pizza party. Overall, the school collected $500 which they used to buy sheets, pillows, towels and blankets. They also collected approximately 10 boxes of basic needs items. The students were able to present the items to the YWCA emergency homeless shelter during the end-of-year PBIS assembly.
