Attention Binghamton City School District community, due to the inclement weather there are several necessary changes to the school calendar. To ensure a full 180 days of instruction is provided there will now be a full day of instruction on Friday, April 21 and Friday, May 26. The search for a new superintendent of schools for the Binghamton City School District entered its final phase on March 8, when the board of education selected three finalists from an initial pool of 15 applicants. At the outset of the search process, consultant Allen D. Buyck, District Superintendent of Broome-Tioga BOCES, worked with board members and representatives from six stakeholder groups to create a profile of skills, knowledge and personal characteristics that were used to identify five first-round candidates.

Elementary Students Celebrate Human Rights Day image Elementary Students Celebrate Human Rights Day
Students at MacArthur Elementary marked World Human Rights Day last week by reciting the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.The declaration was adopted by the United Nations General Assembly in 1948 following World War II.The 30 rights include an education, food and shelter, freedom of expression and even the right to play.Watch the story on WIVT 
MacArthur Students Learn About North America in a Big Way image MacArthur Students Learn About North America in a Big Way
Students at Binghamton's MacArthur Elementary are getting a larger-than-life lesson in geography. Librarian Lonna Pierce has secured National Geographic's Traveling World Map for two weeks. The giant map is displayed on the hallway floor for students to crawl on and learn more about the world. The map is of North America and measures at 35x26 feet. MacArthur Construction Updates
On April 15, 2013 the residents of the Binghamton city School District overwhelmingly approved, by public referendum vote, the construction of a new facility to replace the Macarthur elementary school which was lost in the 2011 flood.
