Students Recite Poetry During Poetry Café

In a dimly lit classroom tiny flameless candles flickered on desks covered in black tablecloths. At the front of the room was a make-shift stage complete with chair and microphone. Jazz music was softly playing in the background setting the tone for the first ever Horace Mann Poet’s Society Poetry Café. The poets in this case were fifth-grade students who had been immersed in a month and a half long poetry unit through the Writer’s Workshop.

Booster Club

A Word from our President
Meetings are the first Monday of every month at 3pm in the library

Horace Mann Booster Club

We are blessed at Horace Mann to have a dedicated and caring group of teachers, support staff and principal and we can make the environment even stronger for the kids by getting involved ourselves.

Last year the Booster Club provided money for field trips to Animal Adventure, Museum of Science & Technology in Syracuse, Oakwood Manor for horseback riding and end-of-year trips to Greenwood Park and Otseningo Park. We also fund Bookie Wookie, butterflies in the kindergartens, Movie Night, performances in the school (like Jared Campbell, Binghamton University Drums, the Binghamton Philharmonic & puppet shows), supplies for the classrooms, a new computer, a baby kangaroo visit to the kindergartens, and the list continues.

These are great ways to enhance our children’s lives and offer opportunities for fun, creativity and learning. We couldn’t do it without your support. Thanks for getting involved!

We meet every first Monday of the month at 2:45 in the school library.
