This Week in Kindergarten...

Welcome to Kindergarten!  I am so happy to have you in my class this year!  We are going to spend the next few days getting to know one another.  We will explore our classroom, make new friends, and talk about ways to make our classroom a happy place for everyone to be.  We will be reading, writing, coloring, and even painting a special project!  We have so much to do and I am looking forward to getting started!

Next Week in Kindergarten...

We will begin our first unit in Reading, focusing on letters Aa, Bb, Cc, Dd, and Ee.  We will also be working with the words I and am.  These letters and words will be in our stories for the week and we will work on some activities to practice letter and word writing.

Our Math lessons will focus on counting, such as the number of friends we have at school each day and how many people ordered hot lunch.  We will be introduced to numbers and begin writing them using proper form.

We will also take a look at the life cycle of a butterfly, starting as a caterpillar and growing into a beautiful butterfly.

There's a lot going on in our class this week!

A Bit About Me...

SchoolCenter Picture

I was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and moved to Binghamton when I was three months old.  I attended school through the Binghamton City School District for elementary, middle, and high school. After graduating, I went to SUNY Cortland where I received my degree in Elementary Education with a Concentration in Psychology.  This degree came after a semester abroad, where I completed my student teaching in London, England.  I then went back to SUNY Cortland and completed my Master's Degree in Childhood/Early Childhood Education with an emphasis on Technology.

Once my degree was completed, I accepted a teaching position at the Family Enrichment Network, teaching in their Head Start program.  I left this position a year and a half later to move to Australia and teach Fourth Grade on the Sunshine Coast in Queensland.  After teaching a full year in Australia, I went back to teaching at Head Start and was hired to teach Kindergarten at MacArthur Elementary in 2007.

I am proud to be teaching in the district I graduated from.  I feel the education I received from the Binghamton City School District could not have been any better, and I am enjoying my role of laying the foundation for future graduates.

Outside of school, I enjoy doing volunteer work in the community.  I am involved in several organizations that enable me to give back in various ways.  Traveling is also something I do whenever I have the chance.  I also enjoy time with family and friends, and you may catch me shopping and eating out on the weekends, as those are both favorite pastimes of mine.
