Happy National Poetry Month!
"With the school library literally the heart of the educational program, the students of the school have their best chance to become capable and enthusiastic readers, informed about the world around them and alive to the limitless possibilities of tomorrow."

Congratulations to MacArthur Library!
Our library is among the 4,000 libraries selected to receive the We the People "More Perfect Union" Bookshelf. This program of the NEH (National Endowment for the Humanities) and the ALA (American Library Association,) provided children's books and materials related to the words "We the People" words from the Constitution.
The We the People Bookshelf is a set of classic books for young readers from Kindergarten through high school.
Each year NEH identifies a theme important to the nation's heritage and selects books that embody that theme. In addition to introducing young readers to good literature, the Bookshelf promotes understanding of abstract or general ideas through the power of particular stories.
Titles selected for the We the People Bookshelf might highlight important chapters in American history; or express universal themes that are integral parts of American culture. The books are intended to represent the rich texture of the American heritage, a tradition that has incorporated ideas and texts from around the world.
The We the People Bookshelf theme, "A More Perfect Union," invites reflection on the idea of the United States as a "union," a "One" as well as a "Many," and is the literary complement of library programs observing the sesquicentennial of the Civil War in American history and culture.
In spring 2010, NEH and ALA selected 4,000 libraries to receive the 17 books for young readers, as well as bonus materials for readers of all ages, and the option to receive three titles in Spanish translation. Libraries selected will be required to use the Bookshelf selections in programs for young readers in their communities.
