In memoriam...

We have received a beautiful oak rocking chair as a gesture from the MacArthur Retired Teachers to remember Bobbie King in our library. It is sturdy and welcoming to both children and adults, and a tasteful plaque is affixed to the rocker explaining the gift. They have also given us a gift certificate for new children's books.
Thank you to our generous retirees!

LIBRARY THEME FOR 2009-2010:
READ AROUND THE WORLD IN 180 DAYS!
|

MacArthur is participating in Pennies for Peace, an international project to build world peace, one school at a time. Our enemies are not people. Our enemy is ignorance. One penny buys a pencil for children in poverty-stricken villages in the remote mountains of Pakistan and Afghanistan. We collected donations for this worthy cause during October, November, and December. Our total amount donated is $811.36! Find out more about this honorable international project at:

Songs! Stories! Dances! Food! Culture! Languages!
There is so much to learn about and enjoy as we take a cruise around the globe. Our MacArthur passports are designed by Mrs. Linda King, and these will provide us some portholes into places we have never been. Of course, this year's theme is inspired by Jules Verne's timeless classic tale,
Around the World in 80 Days. Check it out of the library!

"A true Englishman
doesn't joke when he is talking about so serious a thing as a wager,"
replied Phileas Fogg, solemnly. "I will bet twenty thousand pounds
against anyone who wishes, that I will make the tour of the world in
eighty days or less; in nineteen hundred and twenty hours, or a hundred
and fifteen thousand two hundred minutes."
-Jules Verne, Around the World in 80 Days
