Binghamton senior receives regional writing award

Binghamton High School Senior Joshua Barber has been recognized with a regional award in The Scholastic Art & Writing Awards of 2012, presented by the Alliance for Young Artists and Writers.

To date, the awards program has encouraged more than 13 million students, recognized more than nine million young artists and writers, and made available more than $25 million in awards and scholarships. The program continues to be the longest-running, most prestigious recognition program for creative teens in the U.S., and the largest source of scholarships for young artists and writers.

In 2012, more than 200,000 works were submitted to The Scholastic Art & Writing Awards nationwide.  Of the more than 2,200 works submitted to the Northeast Writing Region-at-Large this year, only 1,042 earned regional recognition.

Joshua received a silver key for his writing portfolio.
