Binghamton High School senior receives recognition for photography

Senior Briese Penaherrera was recently honored by both "Scholastic" and "Photographer's Forum" for her work in photography.

In January, Penaherrera submitted her photography portfolio to the Regional Scholastic Competition held at the Arnot Art Museum in Elmira, where she won the Golden Key Award, the highest honor that a student can receive at the regional level.

Regionally, more than 440 young artists from New York and Pennsylvania submitted artwork to the competition. On February 5, award winners will receive their honors at the 69th Annual Awards Ceremony hosted by the Clemens Center in Elmira.  Following the Ceremony, students will have the opportunity to see their artwork unveiled in the East Gallery of the Arnot Art Museum. The show is available for viewing during regular museum hours throughout the month of February. At the close of the show, award winning artwork will move on to national adjudication.

Penaherrera will also be honored as a finalist in the Photographer's Forum 32nd Annual College & High School Photography Contest, which is co-sponsored by Nikon. Out of 18,000 submissions worldwide, Penaherrera was select as a finalist in the first round of judging. As a result, her photograph will be published in the 2012 edition of "Best of College and High School Photography,"  an annual, full-color, hard-bound publication.
