Volunteer Opportunities……We Need You !!!!!!!!!

Do you wish to become more involved in your child’s school? Want to meet other parents who share your interests and concerns? Become a PTA volunteer! You will be able to share your expertise, learn new things, and help our school, all at the same time. Thomas Jefferson Elementary PTA has many committees for you to join. Below is a list of the events the PTA sponsors with a brief description of each.

Class Pictures

Help photographer on picture day(s). Class Picture Day is October 6, with retakes on Nov 10th!. Jess Leuci Chair

Fall Festival

This event is held on Friday October 21st, it is a evening family event. There is a minimal cost to families and a lot of fun including: cakewalk, fun house, games, face painting. Help by serving the food, setting-up, overseeing the games.  If you can help out for an hour or two- please Contact Janice Bennet  (jlb2135@gmail.com)& Heather Livisky (shmoopy122@stny.rr.com) to help out with this event!

Learn a New Thing Day

This happens in the spring and is an event for the whole school and is very exciting for the students! Parents and local business owners come in and give demonstrations. Assist with planning and organizing the presenters, help clean-up, assist with the afternoon performers. Teach a new skill to our students.

Staff Appreciation

Help plan events to show our support for TJ teachers and staff. Assist with annual luncheon held in May. Casey Perna- Chair

Talent Show

Help with planning, supervision of student performers, publicity, back-stage assistance. The talent show is held in March.

T.J. Tribune

Throughout the year. Assist with publication and distribution of the PTA newsletter. Chair TBD

Yearbook

Help photograph students during the school year, assist with layout and publication of our annual school yearbook. Jess Leuci (mrsdrdomm@stny.rr.com) & Nicole Leonard

Movie Night

Usually held twice during the school year on a Friday night or a night before a school break. A family movie is played in the gym. There is no cost for the movie, however, we do sell popcorn, snacks, and drinks.  Help is needed with making popcorn, watching the children, clean-up.

Reading Program

Throughout the school year, this program holds special events for the students who reach the target of number of books read. Chair TBD

Grade Parents

The direct link to the classrooms. You will help teachers plan parties and other events where the teachers may need parents’ assistance. Chair TBD

Book Fair

This is a fundraiser usually held in fall and spring. This allows our kids to buy books at good prices. Assist with the organization of the fair, help students with their book selections, collect book money, or help with set up and clean up. Chair TBD

Reflections

A fall to winter event. Help with organizing our Reflections program, a national PTA arts recognition and achievement. Chair TBD

Membership

This is a very important area to the PTA!!! Without it we would find it very hard to support any of the events sponsored by the PTA. Chair TBD

Art Show

This event is usually held before Memorial Day. Every student has one piece of artwork on display. Assist with matting and hanging the artwork, organize day of event.

TV Turn-off Week

Takes place in April. Have family game night or reading night – show there are alternative ways for families to spend their time.
