ATTENDANCE POLICY

The Binghamton City School District believes that an important relationship exists between class attendance and student performance.  A student's presence, as well as his/her active participation in class is critical to academic success.  To this end, cooperation among all members of the community, including parents, students, teachers, administrators and support staff, is critical. 

Absences
Excused absences are defined as absences due to personal illness, family illness/death, impassable roads or weather, religious observance, quarantine, required court programs, military obligations or such other reasons as may be approved by the Commissioner of Education.  Any other absence would be considered unexcused subject to review by a building administrator. 

The district expects parents to call the school promptly if their child is absent and provide a written explanation for the absence upon the student's return to school.  When a student is absent, the school/district will make reasonable efforts to notify the student's parent/guardian.  Therefore, it is important that parents/guardians provide their current contact information to ensure that proper notification can be made. If you have a change in address, home telephone, mobile telephone or employer information, please provide this to the Main Office at your child's school, or call the District Attendance Office at 762-8118.
