2010-2011 BINGHAMTON PATRIOT INDOOR TRACK AND FIELD INFORMATION SHEET
1.
Indoor track is a winter sport. Membership on the indoor track team precludes participation in any other varsity sport during the winter season.
2.
There will be no cuts. Any
Binghamton
High School
student in good standing is welcome to participate.
3.
All athletes intending to participate must submit a completed athletic card to the health office and receive either a physical or recheck prior to beginning practice.
If this has not already been done, it should be done as soon as possible.
4.
Team membership is contingent on compliance with district, team, league, Section IV and NYSPHSAA policies related to attendance, behavior, sportsmanship and academic standing.
5.
The indoor track season will begin with practice on Monday, November 8, and conclude with the State Championship at
Cornell
University
on Saturday, March 5.
6.
Practice will be held Monday-Friday from
3:00-5:15 pm
. During the week of November 8, we will practice every day at BHS. Starting the week of November 15, we will be at BHS Monday, Wednesday and Friday, and at Calvin Coolidge Tuesday and Thursday.
The exceptions are the following Tuesday and Thursday dates, when we will stay at BHS: Dec. 2, 9, and 21; Jan. 4, 18, 20 and 27.
7.
Weather permitting (i.e., when, with the wind chill taken into account, the temperature is above 20 degrees and the footing is good), a significant amount of our practice time this season will be spent outdoors.
If practice in these conditions is to be effective, athletes must dress appropriately.
Appropriate dress for running outdoors in cold weather includes sweatsuits, tights, hats and gloves.
8.
In reviewing the competition schedule, keep in mind that not every athlete will participate in every meet. As the schedule indicates, some meets are for freshmen and sophomores or juniors and seniors only. Other meets limit participation to two or three athletes per team per event, or require that athletes have met performance standards. With these limits in mind, one of our goals is to get each team member into the number of competitions that will optimize his or her development as a track and field athlete.
9.
Athletes and parents are encouraged to check our website regularly for updates on our practice and competition schedules, meet results and other information pertinent to our program. Go to
