Board of education members BCSD Board of Education Holds Annual Reorganization Meeting
At the annual reorganization meeting of the BCSD Board of Education newly elected board member, Dr. Penelope Harper, took the oath of office. Brian Whalen was elected as the board president and Evan McNamara was named vice president. School board representatives were also named for each school.

Students in East and West Middle School are addressing the issue of blight in the City of Binghamton as part of an enrichment program called Challenge. Sixth grade students present ideas to transform abandoned buildings and empty lots to community leaders and developers. They designed blueprints for a variety of ideas such as nursing homes, recreation centers and grocery stores. Watch the story on Spectrum News, WBNG, WIVT and WICZ

Seven students from the East Middle School, West Middle School, and Binghamton High School Orchestra programs were selected to participate in the 2016 BCMEA 7-9 Orchestra Festival. They auditioned with other area students in order to be chosen for this orchestra. The BCMEA 7-9 Orchestra Festival was March 17 and 18 at the Anderson Center at Binghamton University.

The search for a new superintendent of schools for the Binghamton City School District entered its final phase on March 8, when the board of education selected three finalists from an initial pool of 15 applicants. At the outset of the search process, consultant Allen D. Buyck, District Superintendent of Broome-Tioga BOCES, worked with board members and representatives from six stakeholder groups to create a profile of skills, knowledge and personal characteristics that were used to identify five first-round candidates.
