Congratulations to the 288 newest graduates of Binghamton High School. The Binghamton City School District celebrated the success and accomplishments of the 2019 class with a commencement ceremony at the Floyd L. Maines Veterans Memorial Arena in downtown Binghamton on Sunday, June 30.
Aseel Mohamed, Class of 2019 President, served as the Master of Ceremony. The ceremony featured remarks by Board of Education President Brian Whalen, BCSD Superintendent Tonia Thompson, Valedictorian Simon Joyner, Salutatorian Samantha Tuberman, and BHS Principal Kevin Richman.
Richman’s speech focused on the unique and outstanding accomplishments of the graduating class. Those accomplishments included a wide variety of personal, academic, athletic, and musical achievements. Richman spoke about one student that recently spent time doing missionary work in Ghana. He recognized another as one of the best violinists to ever walk the halls of Binghamton High School. He commended another graduate that struggled during his first two years of high school, but worked tirelessly throughout his junior and senior years, completing all his graduation requirements and raising his GPA tremendously. These are only a few examples of the many outstanding accomplishments of Binghamton’s 2019 class. These young people have already accomplished so much, and their stories are just beginning.
Each student proudly walked up to receive their diploma, and was met with hugs, handshakes and congratulatory words from their teachers, administrators, and members of the Board of Education. Mohamed left his fellow classmates with a final message of confidence and inspiration.
“I remember, I spoke at the moving up ceremony when I was in eighth grade,” Mohammed told his classmates. “I said “We, the Binghamton High School Class of 2019 can change the world for the better through hard work, patience and staying determined.” Today, I’m here to tell you that we, the Binghamton High School Class of 2019, will change the world for the better through hard work, patience, and staying determined.”
Congratulations to the Class of 2019! We are Patriot Proud of each and every one of you.
