'Repack the Backpack' Provides Food for Students Over Holiday Break
Over the holiday break many Binghamton City School District students who depend on their schools to provide breakfast and lunch may go hungry. However, thanks to the Food Bank of the Southern Tier and the Broome County Child Hunger Task Force these students will get a backpack filled with food for over the holiday break.   
Franklin Students Unveil New Name of Binghamton's Baseball Team
Students of Ben Franklin Elementary were able to usher in the new era of baseball in Broome County thanks to Binghamton’s minor league baseball team. The students won a city-wide reading challenge and were able to unveil the new team name, the Rumble Ponies. The winning name came from a submission from Nicole Schneider from Binghamton. 21st Annual BHS Thanksgiving Community Dinner Announced
Organizers of the Thanksgiving Day Community Dinner at Binghamton High School are making preparations for this year’s annual event, now in its 21st consecutive year. With the expansion of the dining room and continuation of a shuttle bus service (courtesy of First Student), we can accommodate more guests and assist those with transportation concerns. Home delivery and “take home” meals will not be available. 
NY State Senate Sponsoring Thanksgiving Contest for Kids in K-6
Thanksgiving is quickly approaching and the New York State Senate is sponsoring a creative celebration for children in grades K-6. The theme is 'What are you thankful for?' Students can submit an original poem, one-page essay, or artwork expressing what they are thankful for in the past year. Students must submit electronically, preferably in jpg or pdf format via www.akshar.nysenate.gov. 
Three New Administrators Approved at BOE Meeting
At last night's board of education meeting three new administrators were added to the district. Velvet Tanner was named the new director of special services. Tanner has served in the district in various capacities over the past 15 years. She has been a special educator and most recently served as the collaborative coach for Thomas Jefferson. She will begin her new role on Oct. 26. Shelly Richards was named the new assistant principal at MacArthur and Roosevelt Elementary Schools.
