Tuesday, members of the Binghamton Rotary Club met for their annual 'Student of the Year' awards at the Holiday Inn, to celebrate several outstanding kids.Rotarian Lana Rouff hosted the event, giving thanks and appreciation to several 5th grade students of Binghamton Elementary schools that exampled the Rotarian belief of putting others before themselves. Attention Binghamton City School District community, due to the inclement weather there are several necessary changes to the school calendar. To ensure a full 180 days of instruction is provided there will now be a full day of instruction on Friday, April 21 and Friday, May 26. Students at Ben Franklin Elementary celebrated International Day at school. The students learned about various cultures around the world. Guest speakers Sally Ramirez and Doug Robinson gave a performance on Latin music and celebrated music and culture from Mexico, the Caribbean, Latin Americas and Spain.

The search for a new superintendent of schools for the Binghamton City School District entered its final phase on March 8, when the board of education selected three finalists from an initial pool of 15 applicants. At the outset of the search process, consultant Allen D. Buyck, District Superintendent of Broome-Tioga BOCES, worked with board members and representatives from six stakeholder groups to create a profile of skills, knowledge and personal characteristics that were used to identify five first-round candidates.

March is Music in our Schools Month and Binghamton City School District has been well represented. On Monday, March 6 the Binghamton High School Music Department was featured. The following ensembles performed in front of JC Penny; the orchestra under the direction of Ms. Bartlett, the Crescendos, Davidge Choir and Concert Choir under the direction of Mrs. Easley and the Steel Band under the direction of Mr. Smales.
