All About Me
I graduated from Le Moyne College in May of 1996. I received my Master's Degree in Literacy from SUNY Cortland. I have been teaching ESL (English as a Second Language) at Wilson since 1996. I have had the privilege of working with children from countries all over the world including: Russia, Ukraine, Bosnia, Vietnam, China, Puerto Rico, and Laos. I am looking forward to working with a new group of English Language Learners this year!
All About the ESL Program
The ESL Program at Wilson School is both a pull-out and a push-in program. Teachers work with ELL (English Language Learners) children in the regular classroom settings and/or in the ELL classroom setting each day. Children are involved in many daily language-enriching activities such as singing, poetry recitations, Morning Message, reading aloud, guided reading, journal writing, and a wide variety of other things as well.
ELL Testing
Each year, incoming ELL students are screened with a new test known as the NYSITELL. The results of this test determine whether or not a student qualifies for ELL services. In May, all ELL students take the New York State ESL Achievement Test (NYSESLAT). This test has four components to it: reading, writing, listening, and speaking. The NYSESLAT measures an ELL student's English Language proficiency.
