Distance Requirements

To qualify for district-provided transportation, students must meet the following requirements based on the distance from home to school:

      Grades K-5:    1.0 mile
      Grades 6-8:     1.5 miles
      Grades 9-12:   2.0 miles

Under NYS law, parents who want transportation for their children to private and parochial schools must request transportation by April 1st each year.  Click HERE for request form.  You may email this form to yeagerk@binghamtonschools.org.  New residents moving into the district should submit a transportation request as soon as possible.

Bus Passes: 762-8118
Photo ID bus passes are required for all "eligible" students.
(Click HERE for eligibility).

Grades 9-12:

Lifetouch photos are used for all bus passes.

Students needing photos for their I.D. should report to B314.

Eligible students will be provided with their bus pass within the first two weeks of school.

Grades K-8:

The Main Office or Guidance Office of the student’s school building will provide “eligible” students with a bus pass within the first two weeks of school.

If you have moved, please bring proof of address to 98 Oak Street.  You will be notified whether the new address qualifies the student as being eligible for busing.  (See also Distance Requirements above)

School Bus Behavior

Many of our students ride the bus to and from school each day. The greatest bus safety risk for children is not riding the bus, but approaching and leaving the bus.  Please teach children to follow these safety rules for riding the bus:

  • Get to the bus stop at least 5 minutes early.
  • When the bus approaches, stay at least 3 giant steps (6 feet) away from the curb.
  • Wait until the bus stops, the door opens, and the driver says it's OK to board.
  • If you have to cross the street to board, walk alongside the bus at least 5 giant steps (10 feet) before crossing in front of the bus, and be sure the driver sees you.
  • Never walk behind the bus.
  • If you drop something near the bus, tell the driver.  Don't try to pick it up -- the driver might not see you.

It is also important that students obey the bus rules for behavior.  Remind children to stay in their seats, listen to the driver, and follow the rules.
