Three New Administrators Approved at BOE Meeting
At last night's board of education meeting three new administrators were added to the district. Velvet Tanner was named the new director of special services. Tanner has served in the district in various capacities over the past 15 years. She has been a special educator and most recently served as the collaborative coach for Thomas Jefferson. She will begin her new role on Oct. 26. Shelly Richards was named the new assistant principal at MacArthur and Roosevelt Elementary Schools. 
FREE Pre-K Available to City of Binghamton Residents

The Binghamton City School District’s Pre-K program is FREE and open to all children who are 4 by Dec. 1 and live in the City of Binghamton. Half day openings are currently available at Binghamton High School (BHS Pre-K) and MacArthur Elementary Pre-K. There are also half day openings at the Jewish Community Center and Campus Preschool at Binghamton University. Families can register at 98 Oak St in Binghamton or call (607) 762-8197 for more information.

 
Join the PTA or Booster Club and Make a Difference
The recent movie ‘Bad Moms’ portrays PTA members as overzealous, domineering women who plan elaborate bake sales. Binghamton PTA Council President Laura Warwick and Binghamton High School PTSA President Jennifer Taylor said these stereotypes can hamper parent participation. Besides – it’s just not true. Today’s PTA is your opportunity, as a parent or caregiver, to make a difference in the lives of children. 
September is Attendance Awareness Month
The Binghamton City School District is stressing the importance of good attendance. It has pledged to raise awareness on the value of attending school regularly and the importance of reducing chronic absenteeism. This as it joins a nationwide effort to celebrate Attendance Awareness Month this September. Watch the story on WICZ and TWC 
BCSD Hosts Substance Abuse Awareness Workshop
Binghamton City School District and the BHS PTSA will be hosting a substance abuse awareness workshop at the BHS on May 25 from 6 - 8:30 p.m. The workshop for parents, students and community members will address the growing problem of substance abuse.  Watch the Around the Tiers segment on WBNG.
