||In 1988, the Binghamton City School District made the decision to pursue accreditation of all ten of its schools, which included the entire kindergarten through grade 12 program. The district first earned Middle States Accreditation in 1990 and has maintained accreditation status each year since.
The district used the support of the School Alliance for Continuous Improvement and the district-wide Focus Reviews in the Spring of 2013 to demonstrate efforts made to meet the 12 standards set forth by the Commission on Elementary and Secondary Education Schools.
The district was awarded re-accreditation by the Commissions on Elementary and Secondary Schools of the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools for a term of seven (7) years (12/1/2013 to 12/1/2020).
MSA’s revised protocols and practices reflect the latest research on school effectiveness and their approach provides an independent, external affirmation that the Binghamton City School District meets the rigorous, but achievable standards of quality and provides a mechanism for continuous school improvement. The review is a demanding process that requires the commitment and involvement of a wide range of community stakeholders.
This award is a valuable and prestigious achievement and certifies that the Binghamton City School District has demonstrated it is effectively advancing the quality of educational experiences it offers its students and meets its responsibilities to the public, and that it complies with the world-class standards for accreditation established by the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools.
