 Elementary Band

Music is perhaps the most diverse discipline among the arts (dance, music, theatre, and visual art). The study of a musical instrument is an endeavor that requires and individual student's curiosity and desire to perform. The guidance of a skilled teacher and the constant support of parents or guardians are also a must. The Binghamton City School District takes pride in the fact that all of our elementary students are provided the opportunity to learn a musical instrument. It is gratifying that so many of our students develop proficiency on their musical instrument and remain in their band and/or orchestra programs through graduation from high school and beyond.
At the bottom of the page is the BCSD Instrumental Music 3-8 Band Pamphlet with more detailed information regarding our program.  It includes a permission slip for you to fill out if your child wishes to participate in the program.  Also at the bottom of the page is the district scholarship form that can be filled out to waive the yearly rental fee.

Students receive one 40 minute group lesson per 6 day cycle. Groups are comprised of like or similar instruments. All lessons are scheduled in consultation between the lesson teacher and classroom teacher. Each student will receive a copy of the lesson schedule.

Students will attend 2 full band rehearsals per 6 day cycle. Rehearsals will be 30 minutes long and take place during the recess portion of the lunch hour. Rehearsals give students the opportunity to perform as a group and prepare for our yearly concerts.

Students and their parents must realize that regular daily practice is essential. Beginning students should make the effort to practice 15 - 30 minutes each day. These times can be split in various ways, but the only way to succeed in learning to play an instrument is to practice every day.
At the bottom of the page is your child's practice sheet.  You can print it and fill it out in the event that your child misplaces their sheet.
